ABOUT BBYC

OUR BEGINNING

In 2018, Physician Lori Atkins-Williamson noticed a staggering trend of depression and suicide rates on the rise among her medical professional peers and decided it was time to do something. Propelled into action, this mother of two and long-time yoga teacher knew that the tools of yoga and meditation may empower those experiencing such ideations - most especially kids. She has led trauma-informed training, workshops, and classes over the past four years and is now activating an entire organization to serve the Ft. Worth Community: hospital systems, schools, and beyond.

In early 2023, the Bumble Bee Yoga Community will open its doors to its first brick and mortar studio. By creating a physical space, BBYC is able to extend its community reach, by offering a safe space for all to gather and experience the life-giving benefits of this practice.

Our yoga programming and outreach is designed as a suicide prevention tool for children and young adults. We use the three practices of yoga - physical movement, meditation, and inquiry, to support the youth of our community as they turn suffering into power.

Yoga does not just transform the way we see things, it transforms the person who sees."

- B.K.S. Iyengar

Lori is supported by an incredible Executive Board and Teaching Team, who are comprised of individuals who understand the urgency of getting these tools into the hands of our youth.
